In Traditional Chinese Medicine & Herbal practices, White Cardamom (Bai Dou Kou) is valued as an aromatic herb with a warming nature. It is traditionally used to transform Dampness, help the movement of Qi, warming of the Middle (central abdomen area), and supporting a better appetite. Its place is especially familiar in formulas for patterns involving a heavy or unsettled feeling in the Middle, where herbs are chosen to restore movement and comfort.
White Cardamom is the dried, mature fruit of a ginger-family plant. The rounded pods hold the seeds and their fragrant volatile oils. We select whole pods for their colour, shape, region of origin, and fresh aromatic character, so the spice retains its distinctive effects until it is opened or gently crushed for brewing.
A small quantity can bring a lot of character to a brew. In TCM, Bai Dou Kou is valued not simply as a fragrant spice, but for the way its warming nature contributes to a balanced herbal blend.
